There are penthouses, then there are super penthouses. What constitutes a “super penthouse?

6 out of 11 of world’s Super Penthouses in Singapore

Super penthouses are usually defined by the following criteria:

• At least 10,000 sq ft
• Located in skyscrapers between 305 metres and 580 metres in height
• Found in global cities
• Offer spectacular views
• Fetch record prices

According to List Sotheby’s International Realty (List SIR), apparently, more than half of them are located in Singapore.

Penthouses are in general located on the highest floor or floors of tall buildings and have an extensive luxury brokerage, some may even have dedicated lifts and lift lobbies, offer 360-degree panoramic views and usually have four or more bedrooms.

Since 2006, there have been only 6 such penthouses sold in Singapore, 3 of which were in Goodwood Residence on Bukit Timah Road. All 3 were sold for more than $15 million, one of which sold for over $18 million.

The most substantial transaction was a 10,300 sq ft penthouse in Sculptura Ardmore bought by Facebook co-founder Eduardo Saverin in 2017 for more than $60 million.

Previously, Alibaba founder Sun Tongyu paid $51 million for a 13,573 sq ft penthouse in Le Novel Ardmore in 2015. Both properties are located in the Stevens road area, near Shangri-La Hotel.

Super Penthouses offer luxury and privacy

Out of the 11 super penthouses in the world, 5 are in Monaco, Miami, New York and Auckland, New Zealand.

Out of the current 6 super penthouses which are in Singapore, the largest is in Wallich Residence with a floor area of 21,108 sq ft and a building height of 950 ft. The unit spans the 62nd to 64th floors and consists of 5 bedrooms, a family room, a viewing deck, a private garden, a 12-metre pool, a cabana, a jacuzzi, an entertainment room and bar facilities.

Second, on the list is a unit in The Marq with a floor area of 17,642 sq ft. The rest of the super penthouses can be found in private condominium apartments such as Reflections at Keppel Bay, Hilltops, Boulevard Vue and Concourse Skyline.
